“Boxer Boy” is a feature length drama about a young Brit who, after his jaw is broken during a melee in a pub, takes boxing lessons and winds up fighting for the welterweight championship of the Crown.

Not Rocky nor is it intended to be, nut iy a helluva good script with some great boxing scenes. A lo budget, very character driven underdog script. There’s even a bit of romance. Well worth your consideration. The one page is below.

Title: Boxer Boy

Genre: Drama

Logline: After his jaw is broken during a melee in a pub, a young Brit takes boxing lessons, becomes a professional and fights for the welterweight championship of the Crown.

Synopis: David Weston is a stevedore by trade, working on the docks in Brighton England. He is a young man, in his early twenties, tall and lithe. One would say a bit skinny.

It was on a Saturday night in a pub called Rainey’s. The ale is flowing and Angus Beasley, feeling his oats, challenges Ray Loomis to arm wrestle. Unfortunately, Angus loses but is not content to just let it lie.

A fight breaks out. In the midst of the mêlée, David is sucker-punched, breaking his jaw.

David winds up with his jaw wired shut for several weeks. As the doctor removes the wires, he suggests that if David’s going to frequent bars, he needs to learn how to defend himself; perhaps take boxing lessons.

And so it begins.

Pete Bryson is an ex pug…in his younger days, a professional boxer and a champion of the Crown. He is also the grandfather of Kelly Bryson, the doctor’s receptionist. As a result, David winds up taking boxing lessons from Pete.

It is during a lesson that David is conned into participating in a sparring session. He knocks out his opponent.

Lucky punch?

With Ray Loomis as his manager, David begins to box as an amateur under the moniker “Boxer Boy” and, after several bouts turns pro.

Boxer Boy is quickly becoming not only the rage of Brighton, but of the boxing world as well. David is becoming a folk legend.

It seems that the Welterweight champion of the Crown, Frankie Woods, doesn’t take to the commotion that has been created by Boxer Boy and decides to put an end to it once and for all. He egotistically offers to fight David.

It was a helluva fight…a newcomer versus a seasoned pug.

David gives it everything he has and so does Frankie. After all, he can’t lose his crown to a nobody called…”Boxer Boy”? What a crummy name!

In the end, David wins the bout and becomes the welterweight champion of the crown but in the process winds up with a broken jaw…busted in the exact same spot as in Rainey’s bar.

Boxer’s Boy’s boxing career is over

David marries Kelly, content to work on the docks as a stevedore and spending his Saturday nights at Rainey’s having a pint with his friends.
